The Rukuhia Enviro Group had their first meeting of the year this week.  We talked about what we would like to do around the school this year and ways we have of achieving it.  We think that we need to have a big 'end of summer' cleanup in our vege gardens, implement our new paper recycling program and clean out the worm bins.

Our big project this year is THE BANK!  This is an area between the hall which was built 3 years ago and the school.  At the moment it gets really wet there in the winter and has lots of big thistles, which doesn't make it kid friendly.  Josh has been thinking lots about the bank and would like to see it layered so it is easier to use and to have it planted in 'kid friendly' plants that we can all enjoy.  But first we are going to have to do some drawings and then get someone to draw them properly for us, so we can work out materials needed and what it may cost.

Last year we were lucky to get some sponsorship from Fonterra Te Awamutu and we will be using this money in our gardens so that we can begin to grow some of our own plants from seeds, pot them and then transplant them into our own gardens.

We have been very pleased with our gardens over the summer and have managed to grow lots and lots of carrots, onions, beans, potatoes, cabbages and tomatoes.  I wonder what we will grow next?
